University High will defend its Class 3A state championship Saturday night.

No. 1 seed U-High withstood a gritty effort by No. 5 St. Louis and claimed a 51-40 semifinal victory Thursday night at Burton Coliseum.

Wayde Sims scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Cubs.

He was one of three U-High players in double figures.

He was joined by Jalen Johnson (12) and Tulane commit Maxwell Starwood (13 points, 8 rebounds).

Skylar Mays had six points, six assists and six steals.

U-High (31-3), going for its sixth state title, will play No. 3 John Curtis in the championship game.

P.J. Hardy scored 12 points for St. Louis, which finished 21-6.
