The Neville Tigers captured the school’s 11th state championship with a 28-27 win over Warren Easton in the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Class 4A State Championship Saturday night.
Scoring 21 unanswered points after falling behind 13-0, senior running back Kavonte Turpin had rushing touchdowns of one and 63 yards. J.T. Jackson also connected with Chris Fuller for a 13-yd. touchdown pass in the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-13.
Turpin added a 37-yd. touchdown reception midway through the 4th quarter to make it 28-13
Warren Easton got on the scoreboard in the first quarter on a 75-yd. punt return for a touchdown and a 43-yard touchdown pass from Deshawn Capers-Smith to Darren Holmes.
The win for Neville (13-1) is also the Tigers third state championship in the past six years. Seeking their first state championship since the 1942 season, Warren Easton finished up the season with a 12-3 record.
