DERIDDER — Lutcher, seeded No. 17 in Class 4A, used a 28-8 surge over the final three quarters to pull away from No. 16 DeRidder in Friday’s bidistrict football matchup.
DeRidder (7-4) trailed 14-6 after D’Angelo Ridder opened scoring for the Dragons with a 70-yard touchdown run.
But following Ridder’s TD, Lutcher’s Jontre Kirklin rushed 4 yards to score while Destin Porter went 2 yards and Kirklin woa 12-yard TD pass to Al’Dontre Davis and a 16-yarder to Paul Taylor to pull ahead 41-6 before Reder’s second TD, of 46 yards.
Reder rushed 186 yards on 26 atteppts. Kirklin finished with 280 all-purpose yards and five TDs for Lutcher (7-4).
The Bulldogs host No. 1 Plaquemine on Friday.
ST. EDMUND 44, COUNTRY DAY 31: In Eunice, No. 7 St. Edmund capitalized on No. 10 Country Day’s multiple fourth-quarter turnovers. Country Day (7-4) led 31-22 after Jase Griffin’s TD runs of 14 and 43 yards, but five minutes later, St. Edmund’s Zach Lafleur retuned two fumble recoveries within 30 seconds of each other, and Drew Brown added two 2-point conversions, to put the Blue Jays up 38-31.
Brown pitched in a 3-yard TD to put St. Edmund (7-3) up by 13 with one minute to go in the game.
Griffin finished with 294 yards and four TDs for Country Day. For St. Edmund, Lefleur rushed 159 yards for three TDs while Brown put together 159 all-purpose yards, three TDs and three two-point conversions.
St. Edmund travels to Northwestern State in Natchitoches to take on St. Mary’s on Friday night.
