Tuesday forecasts that call for severe storms and possible tornadoes prompted the LHSAA to delay the second day of its Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA state cross country meets.

The LHSAA announced Sunday that competition for Classes 3A to 5A will be pushed back from Tuesday to Wednesday at Northwestern State in Natchitoches.

A short press release from the LHSAA stated that Monday’s races for Classes 2A to C will go on as scheduled, with the first race set for 10 a.m.

“Tomorrow we’re on ... no question,” LHSAA Assistant Executive Director/meet director Keith Alexander said Sunday. “We may get some rain off and on, and that will be fine. I’ve contacted several weather people, including the National Weather Service and Louisiana forecasters, and they’re telling me there’s a chance for heavy thunderstorms and tornado-like activity on Tuesday.

“If it was just rain, it would be one thing. But in this case, we’re going to err on the side of safety. Now we understand this could cause problems for 3A teams with runners who also swim. Their portion of the state swim meet starts Wednesday. Knowing that, we still felt like this was the right decision to make.”
