PRIDE — Marqueon Minor’s 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter helped Class 2A Northeast edge 5A Broadmoor 20-16 on Friday night.
Minor completed 5 of 10 passes for 84 yards and rushed for 141 yards while scoring two of three touchdowns for the Vikings (1-0) and added one interception.
Broadmoor (0-1) opened the scoring. Earl Butler ran in a 1-yard touchdown. Butler completed a pass to Brian Smith for a two-point conversion to give the Buccaneers an 8-0 in the first quarter. Both teams were scoreless in the fourth quarter.
CENTRAL 34, KIPP RENAISSANCE 6: At Central, Tyler Sansone ran for 68 yards on nine carries and scored one TD for the host Wildcats (1-0), who built a 21-6 halftime lead over New Orleans-based KIPP (0-1). The diverse Central attack also included 38 rushing yards on five carries with one TD from Kevin Henry, an LSU commitment as a defensive back. Quarterbacks Gabe Brown and Ralph Moore each had a rushing TD and combined to pass for 105 yards. Shane Smith also scored on a 60-yard interception return for the Wildcats.
PORT ALLEN 45, AVOYELLES 14: In Moreauville, the Pelicans (1-0) scored 29 first-quarter points. Five different players scored for PAHS.
Demarcus Franklin scored on a 53-yard run and tallied 58 yards on just two carries. Jarious Robertson’s lone carry was a 52-yard TD run. Juan Johnson, Ken Broussard and Telson Allen also scored TDs for the Pelicans.
ST. STANISLAUS 34, DUNHAM 19: In Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, a kickoff return for a touchdown and a punt return for a TD helped pave the way for St. Stanislaus to claim a victory.
Able Duhon caught a 41-yard TD pass from Jyron Walker for Dunham. Walker completed 13 of 23 passes for 150 yards for the Class 2A Tigers. Chase Day ran for 89 yards and scored twice on 1-yard runs for Dunham.
WELSH 37, OAKDALE 22: Keyshon Bell and Garrick Grey each scored two TDs in the second quarter as Welsh raced out to a 27-7 lead at Welsh. Bell ran only needed to run a total of 5 yards for his two touchdowns, but tallied 89 yards throughout the game.
Grey scored two defensive touchdowns for Welsh (1-0) on a fumble and an interception. Mason Jordan completed 12 passes for 289 yards and two touchdowns and threw six interceptions for Oakdale (0-1).
Oakdale scored first early in the second quarter on a 16-yard pass from Jordan to Timmy Townley.
CROWLEY 62, WOSSMAN 27: Ty’von Griffin exploded offensively for Crowley, rushing for 184 yards and five touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 50 yards for the Gents (1-0).
Crowley quarterback Pate Broussard completed 6 of 7 passes and threw one touchdown. Cam Lewis rushed 221 yards on 18 attempts for three touchdowns for Wossman (0-1) and added one 15-yard touchdown pass to Montrail Etson. Wossman rushed 300 yards while Crowley ran for 293.
AMITE SCHOOL CENTER 27, CHRISTIAN HOME EDUCATORS FELLOWSHIP 14: Success on the ground helped Amite School Center get the win over Christian Home Educators Fellowship. Davin Booty rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns while David Leyendecker ran 170 yards and one touchdown for ASC.
Brothers Spencer and Ethan Costa scored both of CHEF’s touchdowns. Spencer Costa caught a 10-yard pass from quarterback Arek Moslander in the first quarter and Ethan ran 19 yards for his touchdown in the second. Moslander ran in a 2-point conversion for CHEF (0-3) after Ethan Costa’s touchdown.
