St. Amant High School pitcher Blayne Enlow is officially a cut above.

The senior right-hander made the first cut for the USA Baseball 18-and-under team, thanks to two stellar three-inning outings during the Tournament of Stars held last week in Cary, North Carolina.

Enlow, an LSU commitment, advances to a September competition in which the 40 players in the trials pool will be divided into two 20-man teams. If Enlow makes the final cut, he’ll compete for the 18U team in Mexico also in September.

“It was fabulous,” Enlow said of his experience. “There were a lot of great players there. I relied a lot on my fastball and, when I got ahead in the count, I was able to get most of them to chase a curve.”

Enlow allowed only one hit and struck out five with no walks in his first appearance Wednesday. He repeated that feat Saturday and finished with 10 strikeouts and no walks over six innings, allowing just two hits.
