LAKE CHARLES – Mansfield High made its intentions clear early. The third-seeded Wolverines took the lead early and never let up while claiming a 60-44 victory over second-seeded Ville Platte High in a Class 3A semifinal game at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls Top 28 tournament.

Mansfield (30-3) outscored VPHS in every quarter but one and led by as much as 19 points in the game played Wednesday night at Burton Coliseum. MHS faces No. 1 University High (31-2) in the 3A final set for 8 p.m. Friday.

Ashlyn Jacobs scored a game-high 30 points on 10 of 21` shooting from the floor with three 3-pointers for Mansfield. Keiona Ross added 12 for the Wolverines, who also got 10 rebounds from Kayla Drain.

Brianna Pete had 15 points and Deja McKinney finished with 13 for Ville Platte (29-5), the 3A runner-up a year ago.
