Catholic hires Matt Burmaster as its new defensive coordinator _lowres

Catholic High announced the hiring of Matthew Burmaster as its football defensive coordinator in a press release on Wednesday.

Burmaster, who previously served as a defensive coordinator at Ponchatoula High, also serve as a health & physical education teacher. He most recently served as defensive coordinator at Ponchatoula High. He also coached defensive backs there. He also was defensive coordinator at Covington High and served as defensive backs coach at West Jefferson High School.

Burmaster has helped coach teams to 13 Class 5A playoff appearances.

“We are excited to have Matt join the Catholic High football program and community,” Catholic head coach Dale Weiner said in the school release. “He brings great defense expertise and experience. I believe he will fit in well at Catholic High School.”

A Jesuit High graduate, Burmaster has a bachelor’s degree in secondary English education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College and is pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership from Arkansas State University.

“I am extremely honored and proud to be the new Defensive Coordinator at Catholic High School. I would like to thank Coach Weiner, Coach Kelly, Mrs. Harvey and the entire Catholic High School administration for affording me this opportunity,” Burmaster said. “I would not be where I am today without the overwhelming support of my family, friends, and coaches who have played such an integral part of my life.”
