SULPHUR — The Riverside softball team’s bid for a second straight trip to the championship game fell short as the Lady Rebels lost 10-5 to Oak Grove in the Class 2A semifinals Saturday afternoon at Frasch Park.

Oak Grove (27-4), the No. 1 seed, was slated to play Holy Savior Menard in the championship game at 5 p.m. Saturday. Menard, the No. 3 seed, beat No. 2 Calvary Baptist 4-1 in the other semifinal.

Riverside, which lost to John Curtis in the Class 2A title game last season, finished 18-12.

The score was tied at 3 after three innings before Oak Grove put together a four-run fourth. Sarah Dugan drew a bases-loaded walk, then Abby Cook followed with a base-clearing double to put the Lady Tigers ahead 7-3.

Erica Delaneuville went 3-for-4, including a solo homer in the first to lead the Lady Rebels.

“I thought even though we got off to a quick start, I just wasn’t seeing the intensity,” Riverside coach Kristy Hebert said. “You can’t come not ready to play in the state semifinals.”
