The buzz: Both looking for first Catholic League win. Eagles led by one of state’s top backs in Trey Ragas. He has rushed for 1,264 yards and 18 TDs. QB Matt Keller has thrown for 1,050 yards and 11 touchdowns. St. Aug is led by QB Justice McCoy, who is closing in on the 2,000-yard mark.

District 8-5A

Cox (1-7, 0-3) at West Jefferson (3-5, 2-1)

Time, place: 6:30 p.m., Hoss Memtsas

Last week: Helen Cox lost to John Ehret 61-0; West Jefferson lost to Chalmette 35-14

Last year: West Jefferson won 26-14

The buzz: Cox will be without do-it-all QB Dion Ray, who injured his shoulder last week against Ehret. The UL-Lafayette commitment has thrown for 1,365 yards and has 512 rushing. Ray is one of six starters missing for the Cougars. West Jeff looks to rebound after having its 3-game winning streak was snapped last week. QB Coley Ransaw leads the Buccaneers.

District 9-4A

McDonogh 35 (1-6, 0-2) at Karr (4-3, 1-1)

Place: Behrman

Last week: McDonogh 35 lost to Landry-Walker 23-13; Karr beat Belle Chasse 27-14

Last year: Karr won 34-16

The buzz: Cougars have won two straight and allowed just 21 points in those games. QB Aldon Clark has thrown for 1,157 yards and 10 TDs for the Cougars. Jurrell Dunn heads up the ground game with 488 rushing yards and 7 TDs. LSU commitment Isaiah Washington heads up the defense. Roneagles have won just one game, but plenty of talent with RB Darius May, WR Darius Williams and QB Sidney Wilson.

District 8-4A

Lakeshore (3-5, 1-2) at Pearl River (0-8, 0-3)

Last week: Lakeshore lost to Franklinton 56-14; Pearl River lost to Riverdale 48-0

Last year: Lakeshore won 55-7

The buzz: Rebels have been outscored 103-0 the past two weeks and have been shut out three times this season. Titans led by LSU commitment David Ducre. Titans have given up 46.3 points per game in past three weeks.

District 11-3A

Curtis (6-1, 2-0) at De La Salle (6-2, 1-1)

Time, place: 3:30 p.m., Pan American

Last week: Curtis beat Lusher; De La Salle beat Pope John Paul II

Last year: Curtis won 41-7

The buzz: District 11-3A game between ranked teams. Curtis is No 1 in Small School Super 10 and No. 2 in Class 3A. Cavaliers are No. 6 in Super 10 and No. 10 in 3A. Devon Benn leads Patriots potent ground game with 824 yards and 6 TDs, but has plenty help with backfield mates Dontae Jones (672 yards) and QB Myles Washington (567 yards). Hunter Dale and Bo Wallace lead the defense. De La Salle’s Cole Lewis is over the 1,000 yard mark.

Nondistrict

Grace King (3-5) at Ben Franklin (2-6)

Time: 3:30 p.m.

Last week: Grace King beat Sci Academy 50-8; Ben Franklin beat Crescent City 22-0

Last year: Grace king won 40-12.

The buzz: Two teams that aren’t competing for a district title. Ben Franklin snapped a 6-game losing streak last week. Derrick Friloux leads the Irish ground game with 598 rushing yards and 6 TDs.

St. Martin’s (4-4) at Haynes Academy (4-4)

Time, place: 6:30 p.m., Joe Yenni

Last week: St. Martin’s beat Ecole Classique 35-6; Haynes lost to Varnado 42-6

Last year: St. Martin’s won 20-14

The buzz: St. Martin’s seeking first three-game winning streak of the season after alternating 2-game losing streaks and 2-game winning streaks through first eight weeks of season. Dez McGovern has thrown for 1,243 yards and 14 touchdowns this season. Jack Brown has 401 receiving yards. Haynes trying to end a 2-game losing skid where it has been outscored 94-21.

McMain (5-3) at Belle Chasse (4-4)

Last week: McMain lost 49-14 to St. Charles; Belle Chasse lost 27-14 to Karr

Last year: Belle Chasse won 57-36

The buzz: Cardinals looking to get back on track after brutal 3-game stretch against Easton, Landry-Walker and Karr. QB Andrew Hicks is one of area’s leading rushers with 1,267 yards and 17 TDs. Defense led by Peyton Cooper (71 tackles) and Caylin Parker (67). McMain led by QB Darnell Williams, who threw for 179 yards last week.
