The Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s executive committee approved a select school football playoff plan for the fall that will consist of four divisions at its Thursday afternoon meeting.

Central Catholic-Morgan City Principal Vic Bonnaffee proposed leaving the 10 Division I-Class 5A schools together in one division. His proposal, which passed with a voice vote, calls for a total of 16 Division II-4A and Division III-3A schools to be combined to make up Division II.

Also remaining intact will be the group of 15 Class 2A select schools that will become Division III and the 30 Class 1A schools that will become Division IV.

The committee took three breaks while select schools in the two combined divisions were contacted to get their point of view on the plan. Only three 3A schools — Notre Dame-Crowley, DeLaSalle-New Orleans and E.D. White Catholic-Thibodaux — opposed combining the two divisions when contacted by phone Thursday.
