St. Joseph’s Academy was the only Baton Rouge team to claim a No. 1 seed when the Louisiana High School Athletic Association announced its volleyball playoff pairings on Monday.

The defending Division I state champion Redstickers (41-2), like all the other top eight seeds in each division don’t play until next week when the regional round begins.

St. Amant (29-11) of Division I, Parkview Baptist (29-9) of Division III, University of Division IV (30-11) and St. John-Plaquemine (30-9) of Division V all grabbed No. 4 seeds to also help lead the local contingent.

Two Division II teams, No. 7 St. Michael the Archangel (24-13) and No. 8 Central (22-11), also got byes. So did sixth-seeded Dunham (17-20) of Division V, No. 7 Ascension Catholic (20-16) of Division V and No. 8 Episcopal (23-11) of Division IV.

Bidistrict-round playoff action won’t begin until Wednesday at the earliest for the other area teams. Game times for all teams were not available.

No. 22 Woodlawn (22-14) travels to No. 11 Dutchtown (25-16) for a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday contest in Division I. There is one other all-local match up in Division V with No. 15 White Castle (12-15) hosting 18th-seeded Ascension Christian (9-17) at 6 p.m. Thursday.

East Ascension (24-16), the 13th seed, hosts No. 20 Slidell (18-15) at 5 p.m. Thursday in Division I. Also in Division I, No. 17 Zachary (17-14) plays at No. 16 Terrebonne (24-17) at 5 p.m. Thursday.

In Division II, 19th-seeded Belaire (16-20) travels to No. 14 Belle Chasse (16-15) at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Live Oak (16-18), the No. 22 seed, plays at No. 11 South Terrebonne (22-14) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

West Feliciana (16-13), seeded 20th in Division III, travels to Lake Charles to play No. 13 St. Louis Catholic (14-12) at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

One other Division V team, No. 9 Catholic-PC (16-20), hosts No. 24 Patrick Taylor (7-12) also at 6 p.m. Thursday.
