Newman rebounded after losing the first set by a wide margin to oust Fomtainebleau 2-1 in the final of Woodlawn High’s Rumble in the Jungle volleyball tournament Saturday night.

Fontainebleau posted a resounding 25-8 win in the first set, but the Greenies won the next two by scores of 25-21 and 15-13 to claim the title.

Newman’s Katherine Bolyard was the tourney MVP. Ashton Politz also made the all-tournament team for the Greenies, who finished 7-0 in the two-day tourney. Newman also needed three sets to beat Parkview Baptist in the semifinals.

Fontainebleau finished 5-2 and placed Alexis Zulli also made the all-tourney squad.

Swimming

St. Charles Catholic swept the teams title at the Metro New Orleans Swim League meet held Saturday at the University of New Orleans.

The Comets scored 452 points in the boys division and 451 in the girls division. Louise McGehee (232) and Archbishop Hannan (227) were the other top finishers on the girls side. Hannan (223) and Northlake Christian (207) were next in the boys division.

Haynes Academy had two double winners in the girls division — Ashton Edler (200, 500 freestyles) and Jessica Ding (100 breaststroke, 200 individual medley). Destrehan’s Cody Schafer (50 freestyle, 100 breatstroke) was the lone boys double winner.
