Carver (4-4, 1-3) vs. Lake Area (2-, 6, 1-3)

Last week: Carver lost to Easton, 45-6; Lake Area lost to Episcopal, 35-28

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-4A game. First meeting between these two. After opening the season 4-0, Carver has lost four consecutive games, three to district opponents. The Rams rank 24th in the LHSAA power rankings. Lake Area has been outscored 136-55 in district competition.

Clark (2-6, 1-4) at KIPP (1-7, 0-5)

Last week: Clark lost to McMain, 42-26; KIPP lost to Lusher, 62-0

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-3A game. Clark is one win shy of surpassing its 2014 win total (2). Three wins would be the most for the Bulldogs since 2010. KIPP has lost seven in a row and has been shutout three times in those games.

Country Day (7-1, 2-1) at Riverside (6-1, 3-0)

Last week: Country Day lost to Newman, 40-14; Riverside defeated St. Charles, 35-3

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-2A game. Riverside and Country Day rank first and sixth among small schools by The New Orleans Advocate. Riverside ranks third in Class 2A by the LSWA. Country Day suffered its first loss under coach Joe Chango last week, scoring a season-low 14 points and surrendered a season-high 40 points. With a win, Riverside can clinch a share of the District 9-2A crown for the third consecutive year. The Rebels have won 11 straight district games dating back to 2013.

Covington (4-4, 2-3) at Hammond (0-8, 0-5)

Last week: Covington defeated Northshore, 35-17; Hammond lost to Mandeville, 49-7

Last season: Covington won, 48-14

The buzz: District 6-5A game. Covington has won four in a row in its series with Hammond. Lions sophomore running back Devin Brumfield is among the New Orleans area’s leading rushers with 1,211 yards and 13 touchdowns. Covington ranks 37th in the LHSAA power poll. Hammond remains in search of its first victory of the season and has been outscored 218-41 in league play.

Crescent City (1-7, 0-3) at Ridgewood (1-6, 0-3)

Last week: Crescent City lost to Houma Christian, 28-14; Ridgewood lost to Varnado, 47-18

Last season: Crescent City won, 20-16

The buzz: District 8-1A game. Crescent City has lost three consecutive district games. Its last district win came against Ridgewood on Nov. 7, 2014. Ridgewood has lost seven consecutive district games dating back to last season.

De La Salle (8-0, 5-0) at Sci Academy (1-7, 1-4)

The buzz: District 9-3A game. De La Salle improved to 8-0, which is the best start in school history. De La Salle ranks second in Class 3A by the LSWA and second among small schools by The New Orleans Advocate. The Cavaliers defense has allowed 7.1 points per game, tops in the New Orleans area. Sci Academy has been outscored 324-55 this season and shutout three times, including twice in the past three games.

Fisher (4-4) at Ben Franklin (3-5)

Last week: Fisher lost to South Plaquemines, 48-12; Ben Franklin beat Grace King 14-12

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: Non-district game. Fisher gave up a season-high 48 points in last week’s district loss at South Plaquemines. Fisher sits 37th in the LHSAA power poll. Ben Franklin has won back-to-back games for the first time since Weeks 2 and 3 of the 2012 season.

Fontainebleau (6-2, 4-1) at Slidell (1-7, 1-4)

Last week: Fontainebleau beat Ponchatoula, 35-14; Slidell lost to St. Paul’s, 51-7

Last season: Slidell won, 27-3

The buzz: District 6-5A game. Fontainebleau’s four wins in district play are the most since 2011, when the Bulldogs went 4-3. A win would keep Fontainebleau’s chances for a district title alive. Fontainebleau sits 27th in the LHSAA power poll. Slidell has won three in a row in its series against Fontainebleau.

Franklin (1-7) at East St. John (1-7)

Last week: Franklin lost to Kaplan, 47-0; East St. John beat Terrebonne, 47-37

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: Non-district game. Franklin of District 8-3A has lost five consecutive games and is allowing 42.3 points per game. East St. John of District 7-5A secured its first win under first-year coach Alden Foster last week against Terrebonne in district play. Under the direction of quarterback Marquise Darensbourg, the Wildcats scored a season-high 47 points.

H.L Bourgeois (5-3, 1-3) at Hahnville (5-3, 3-1)

Last week: H.L. Bourgeois lost to Destrehan, 56-12; Hahnville beat Central Lafourche, 28-6

Last season: Hahnville won, 58-8

The buzz: District 7-5A game. H.L. Bourgeois has lost two straight after allowing a combined 105 points. Hahnville ranks 23rd in the LHSAA power poll. Hahnville has won two in a row in its series against H.L. Bourgeois and three in a row overall. In that span, the Tigers have outscored their opponents 118-31.

Higgins (3-5, 3-2) vs. West Jefferson (4-4, 3-2)

West Jeff’s offense is averaging 37.6 points per game in district play. The Hurricanes last beat West Jeff on Oct. 8, 2010 by a score of 34-14.

Houma Christian (4-4, 3-0) at Cov. Christian (4-4, 3-0)

Last week: Houma Christian beat Crescent City, 28-14; Covenant Christian beat St. Martin’s, 34-7

Last season: Covenant Christian, won, 21-14

The buzz: District 8-1A game. Either team can clinch a share of the district championship with a victory. Covenant Christian has won its last three meetings against Houma Christian. The Lions and Warriors shared the district title a year ago.

Jesuit (3-5) at Franklinton (6-2)

Last week: Jesuit beat Shaw, 42-14; Franklinton beat Lakeshore, 41-7

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: Non-district game. Jesuit of District 9-5A snapped a four-game losing skid and picked its up first Catholic League victory last week. Jesuit last played Franklinton in 2012, and won the game, 35-3. Franklinton of District 8-4A ranks sixth in Class 4A by the LSWA. The Demons have won four in a row by a combined score of 178-40, scoring at least 39 points during that stretch while holding opponents to fewer than 14 points. Last week, the Demons clinched a share of the District 8-4A title.

Landry-Walker (6-2, 4-1)

at East Jeff (2-5, 1-4)

The buzz: District 8-5A game. This is the first-ever football meeting between Landry-Walker and East Jefferson. Landry-Walker is in a three-way tie for first place in the district with Ehret and Chalmette. Landry-Walker ranks ninth among large schools by The New Orleans Advocate and is 20th in the LHSAA power poll. East Jeff is 1-2 in its last three games, but has scored 22.7 points per game compared to 8.2 points per game in its first seven.

Lutcher (7-1, 5-0) at Lusher (5-3, 3-2)

Last week: Lutcher beat Sci Academy, 61-0; Lusher beat KIPP, 62-0

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-3A game. Lutcher, along with De La Salle, remains unbeaten in district play. Lutcher ranks third in Class 3A by the LSWA and third in the LHSAA power poll. Lusher is 21st. The Bulldogs have posted shutouts in back-to-back games and have won five in a row. Lusher has won three consecutive games by a combined score of 129-20.

McDonogh 35 (7-1) at Amite (4-4)

Last week: McDonogh 35 beat Riverdale, 62-10; Amite beat Independence, 39-7

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: Non-district game. McDonogh 35 of District 9-4A and Amite of District 7-3A last met in 2010, as the Roneagles won 23-6. McDonogh 35 rebounded from its first loss of the season against Easton by scoring a season-high 62 points at Riverdale. The Roneagles rank eighth among large schools by The New Orleans Advocate, seventh in Class 4A by the LSWA and 11th in the LHSAA power poll.

McMain (2-6, 2-3) at St. James (5-3, 3-2)

Last week: McMain beat Clark, 42-26; St. James lost to De La Salle, 41-16

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-3A game. After an 0-5 start, McMain has won two in a row and has posted its two highest scoring totals of the season (57, 42). St. James has dropped two in a row and been held to 16 points in that span. The Wildcats dropped from the LSWA poll, but remain 17th in the LHSAA power poll and 7th in the small school Super 10.

N’lake Christian (6-2, 3-1) at Springfield (1-7, 0-5)

Last week: Northlake Christian lost to St. Thomas Aquinas, 56-20; Springfield lost to Hannan, 35-18

Last season: Northlake Christian won, 26-21

The buzz: District 7-2A game. Northlake Christian, ranked fifth among small schools by The New Orleans Advocate, has won two consecutive meetings in its series against Springfield. Last week, the Wolverines gave up a season-high 56 points in their loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, which dropped them into second place in the district standings. Springfield has lost five in a row since the start of district play.

Northshore (2-6, 1-4) at Ponchatoula (5-3, 2-3)

Last week: Northshore lost to Covington, 35-17; Ponchatoula lost to Fontainebleau, 35-14

Last season: Ponchatoula won, 49-7

The buzz: District 6-5A game. Ponchatoula, ranked 24th in the LHSAA power poll, has won three consecutive meetings against Northshore. Ponchatoula has lost back-to-back games for the first time since October 2012, when it lost three in a row against Covington, Mandeville and St. Paul’s. The Panthers’ last victory against the Green Wave came on Sept. 23, 2011 by a score of 25-24.

Pearl River (4-4, 0-2) at Lakeshore (6-2, 1-1)

Last week: Pearl River lost to Loranger, 49-3; Lakeshore lost to Franklinton, 41-7

Last season: Lakeshore won, 48-13

The buzz: District 8-4A game. Lakeshore and Pearl River rank ninth and 39th, respectively, in the LHSAA power poll. Lakeshore has won two in a row and three of the last four against Pearl River. The Rebels are looking to snap a 15-game district losing streak which dates back to the 2012 season. The Rebels’ last district victory came against Lakeshore on Oct. 12, 2012 by a score of 41-40.Pine (1-7, 1-3) at P.J Paul II (1-7, 1-3)

Last week: Pine beat Springfield, 27-20; Pope John Paul lost to St. Helena, 40-0

The buzz: District 7-2A game. Pine notched its first victory of the season last week at home against Springfield, scoring a season-high 27 points. Pope John Paul II dropped its fourth consecutive game and was shutout a third time in that span and fourth overall on the season. This season, the Jaguars have been outscored 267-32.

Salmen (2-5, 1-1) at Loranger (3-5, 1-2)

Last week: Salmen beat Jewel Sumner, 14-7; Loranger beat Pearl River, 49-3

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 8-4A game. With back-to-back wins, Salmen has matched its 2014 season win total. The Spartans two-game win streak is the longest since they beat Riverdale and Pearl River Weeks 9 and 10 of the 2013 season. Loranger scored a season-high 49 points in its win over Pearl River last week.

Shaw (4-4, 1-3) at Brother Martin (6-2, 2-2)

The buzz: District 9-5A game. Brother Martin has won its last two meetings again Shaw. The Eagles last won on Oct. 29, 2010, by a score of 21-14. Shaw senior Trey Ragas became the school’s all-time leading rusher against Jesuit. Ragas rushed for 144 yards to up his career total of 4,595 yards ahead of previous record holder Daniel Borne (2004-06). Brother Martin ranks fifth among large schools by The New Orleans Advocate. The Crusaders sit ninth in Class 5A by the LSWA. Crusaders RB Bruce Jordan-Swilling has scored 30 TDs this season, including 29 rushing.

St. Charles (6-2, 2-1) at West St. John (3-5, 1-2)

Last week: St. Charles lost to Riverside, 35-3; West St. John beat Sophie B. Wright, 42-28

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 9-2A game. St. Charles and West St. John are preparing to meet for the first time since Sept. 17, 2010. After missing three games, senior quarterback Patrick Ratliff is expected back for St. Charles. The Comets rank third among small schools by The New Orleans Advocate and ninth in Class 2A by the LSWA. West St. John sits 31st in LHSAA power poll. West St. John snapped a five-game losing skid by scoring a season-high 42 points in a win over Wright.

St. Martin’s (2-6, 2-2) at Varnado (4-4, 2-1)

Last week: St. Martin’s lost to Covenant Christian, 34-7; Varnado beat Ridgewood, 47-18

Last season: Did not play

The buzz: District 8-1A game. Over the last four district games, St. Martin’s has scored 46 and 41 points, its highest totals of the year, but also has been held to seven points twice. Varnado posted a season-high 47 points in a 47-18 defeat of Ridgewood last week.

St. Paul’s (7-1, 5-0) at Mandeville (7-1, 5-0)

Last week: St. Paul’s beat Slidell, 51-7; Mandeville beat Hammond, 49-7

Last season: Mandeville won, 14-7

The buzz: District 6-5A game. St. Paul’s and Mandeville rank sixth and seventh, respectively, among large schools by The New Orleans Advocate. St. Paul’s has defeated Mandeville in five of the last six meetings, the exception being last year’s loss. Both teams have identical marks (7-1, 5-0) and are playing to clinch a share of the district championship. The Wolves and Skippers shared the district crown back in 2013.

S.T. Aquinas (8-0, 4-0) at St. Helena (5-3, 3-1)

Last week: St. Thomas Aquinas beat Northlake Christian, 56-20; St. Helena beat Pope John Paul II, 40-0

Last season: St. Thomas Aquinas won, 45-22

The buzz: District 7-2A game. St. Thomas Aquinas ranks sixth in Class 2A by the LSWA. St. Thomas Aquinas can clinch a share of the district championship with a win. The Falcons scored a season-high 56 points last week against Northlake Christian, which had held opponents to 15.1 points per game in the previous seven games. St. Helena posted its second shutout of the season last week against Pope John Paul II and scored 40 or more points a third time.

Sophie B. Wright (1-6, 0-3) at Newman (5-2, 1-2)

Last week: Sophie B. Wright lost to West St. John, 42-28; Newman beat Country Day, 40-14

Last season: Newman won, 47-14

The buzz: District 9-2A game. Newman ranks fourth among small schools by The New Orleans Advocate. Sophie B. Wright has lost six in a row and remains in search of its first district win under coach Del Lee-Collins. The Warriors are 0-2 all-time against Newman. The Greenies knocked off previously unbeaten Country Day by holding the Cajuns to a season-low 14 points.

Thibodaux (6-2, 4-0) at Destrehan (8-0, 5-0)

Last week: Destrehan beat H.L. Bourgeois, 56-12; Thibodaux beat St. Augustine, 35-19

Last season: Destrehan won, 21-14

The buzz: District 7-5A game. Destrehan and Thibodaux are battling for first place in this district. Destrehan can clinch a share of the 7-5A title with a win. Destrehan ranks second among large schools by The New Orleans Advocate. Destrehan sits third in Class 5A by the LSWA and fifth in the LHSAA power poll. Thibodaux is 26th.
