The buzz: Game is part of the Battle on the Border in Independence Stadium. Easton, which reached state title game in 2014, now ranked No. 4 in LSWA Class 4A poll. RB Joseph Boyd led Easton with 99 yards in opener and WR Clyde Chriss had six catches for 106 yards; Evangel, playing in Class 5A this season, committed four turnovers in last week’s loss

The buzz: Teurlings Catholic is ranked No. 2 in Class 4A;

The Rebels topped two-time Division III state champion Calvary Baptist in Week 1 behind a balanced offensive attack that totaled nearly 450 yards. Keep an eye on Cole Kelley, who accounted for four TDs last week against Calvary Baptist’s loaded secondary; Trey Ragas rushed for 97 yards and a TD last week for the Eagles and Matt Keller threw for 188 yards and 3 TDs.

Covington (1-0) at Rummel (1-0)

The buzz: Battle of two teams ranked in The New Orleans Large School Super 10; Rummel is ranked No. 1 and Covington is No. 10 after knocking off previously No. 9 Franklinton; Raiders also ranked 14th nationally by MaxPreps; Rummel QB Chase Fourcade ran for 95 yards and threw for 65 last week; Israel Tucker rushed for 78 of Rummel’s 238 yards; Covinton sophomore RB Devin Brumfield rushed for 96 yards last week against against Franklinton; Anthony Ford (9 tackles) and Tyler Evans (8 tackles) and Matthew Thompson (8 tackles) led the Lions last week; DL Briston Guidry (Arkansas commit) and CB Kristian Fulton (1 INT) head up the Raider D.

The buzz: Scotlandville’s Robert Valdez got his first win at his new school last week, now Al Jones is hoping to do the same with the Purple Knights; Scotlandville sophomore RB Trenton Charles rushed for 112 yards on 14 carries last week and junior QB Levi Lee completed 17 of 22 passes for 251 yards and a pair of TDs; Justice McCoy threw for 136 yards last week for the Purple Knights in their first loss to 35 since 2011; Tennessee commit D’Andre Christmas-Giles anchors the defense.
