KAPLAN — No. 9 Kaplan advanced to the second round of the Class 3A state football playoffs Friday night with a 24-7 victory over Brusly.

Running back Grant Frick led the Pirates (8-3) for 166 yards and two touchdowns and added 38 receiving yards and another score.

Frick tallied four carries of more than 25 yards and averaged 11.1 yards per carry in the victory against the 24th-seeded Panthers.

The Pirates limited Brusly to 276 yards of total offense and forced three turnovers.

Kaplan also received a boost from Johnson, who finished the game with 139 yards on 25 carries. The Pirates finished the contest with 393 total yards, 340 on the ground.

Zavian Bell produced the only score for Brusly (5-6).

LIVONIA 28, LAGRANGE 13: In Lake Charles, No. 18 Livonia put together a solid first half to stun LaGrange for a win in Class 4A playoff action.

The Wildcats (7-4) advance to face Crowley at home in the regional round next week.

Quarterback Cee Jay Powell opened scoring for the Wildcats on a 32-yard run on a zone-read keeper. Donovan Robertson scored on an 11-yard run later in the first quarter. Patrick Queen scored on a 23-yard run in the second quarter.

In the last minute of the half, Powell dodged pressure in the backfield and flipped a pass into the end zone that fell into the hands of Kendrick Paul for a 13-yard score.

Jaylun Myles punched in both scores for No. 15 LaGrange (6-4) on runs of 65 and 6 yards.

DESTREHAN 44, DENHAM SPRINGS 30: The No. 3 seed Wildcats overcome a slow start at home to advance to the quarterfinal round of Class 5A.

Destrehan junior Kohen Granier was 18 of 27 for 275 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Justin Jefferson, Mike Young and John Williams for scores. The Wildcats moved to 10-0.

The No. 30 Yellow Jackets gained 232 yards rushing and were held to eight first downs. Tyre Golmond finished with 143 yards on 17 carries. Robert Thomas also contributed scores while the Denham Springs passing game was held to 16 yards on four completions. DSHS finished the season at 5-6.

ST. JAMES 34, GREEN OAKS 21: In his season debut, quarterback Lowell Narcisse led the No. 15 seeded Wildcats for three scores in Class 3A bidistrict action.

With the win St. James moves to 8-3. No. 18 Green Oaks dropped to 4-7.

EAST FELICIANA 36, PINE 6: In Jackson, the No. 7-seeded Tigers held No. 26 Pine to a single score in a Class 2A playoff win.

East Feliciana outgained Pine 250-185 total yards and forced two fumbles.

Senior running back Chris Chaney opened scoring for the Tigers on runs of 11 and 63 yards in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, sophomore defensive back Joshua Tiller returned a interception 24 yards for a score while running back Gemontae Franklin punched in a 20-yard run. Treylan Dunn returned a fumble 75 yards for a final Tigers touchdown.

Joey Feel accounted for a Pine (2-8) touchdown on a 5-yard run in the final period.

JOHN EHRET 39, EAST ASCENSION 7: In Marrero, No. 9-seeded John Ehret dominated No. 24 East Ascension in its Class 5A playoff opener.

Patriots quarterback Dejon Harris rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns, and running back Juwan Leonard had 178 yards and two touchdowns. Ehret moved to 9-2.

East Ascension ended its season at 5-6. Quarterback Kyran Irvin and Ira Washington combined on a 64-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
