BOOKHAVEN, Miss. - Silliman Institute took an early 7-6 lead against Brookhaven Academy on Friday night, but it was all Brookhaven the rest of the way.
Brookhaven led by 40 points at halftime en route to a 60-13 victory in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools season opener.
Landon Nettles led the Brookhaven attack, rushing for 107 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries. Nettles gave Brookhaven the lead for good on a 22-yard run to kick-start a 35-0 run.
Before that, Colt Ducote had given Silliman the early lead on a 1-run run.
Ducote finished 24-of-42 for 250 yards with one passing touchdown and three interceptions. Cobb Kelly had eight catches for 118 yards, including a 63-yard score.
COPIAH ACADEMY 17, OAK HILL 8: In Amite, Copiah came within a Ryan Riggins score late in the fourth quarter from pitching a shutout in its season opener.
Riggins got Oak Hill on the board with a rushing touchdown 58 seconds before the final horn.
Oak Hill finished with only six first downs.
Copiah took an 11-0 lead on Barron Miller’s 6-yard run in the first quarter. The team from Gallman, Miss., made it 17-0 at halftime on Kelton Smith’s 17-yard run.
