LAKE CHARLES — No. 7-seeded North Caddo overcame adversity to defeat third-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas 59-57 in the second Class 2A semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Girls’ Top 28 basketball tournament Thursday in Burton Coliseum.

St. Thomas Aquinas had a three opportunities, trailing by two in the final 15 seconds, but failed to convert as it turned the ball over all three possessions .

North Caddo trailed for a majority of the first half, with their deficit peaking at seven points with less than two minutes remaining in the second quarter.

But the Rebels scored the last six points of the half to cut St. Thomas Aquinas’ lead to a point before halftime and then proceeded to regain the lead.

The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the second half. With the game tied at 48, North Caddo junior Jasmine Thomas converted a three-point play with 3:08 remaining that put the Rebels ahead for good.

Sumer Williams and sophomore Keyarrea Easter were NCHS’s biggest contributors, combining for 53 points and 35 rebounds. Williams and Easter each posted double-doubles.

St. Thomas Aquinas junior Regan Bolton tallied a game-high 26 points.

The Rebels will meet No. 1 Pickering in the Class 2A championship game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
