Brother Martin-based Peake BMW rallied from a 3-0 deficit and scored the winning run in the seventh inning to defeat Rummel-based Deanie’s Seafood 4-3 in the second game of the American Legion southeast regional Tuesday night at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
Wednesday’s games will feature Shaw-based Refuel against Peake BMW at 4 p.m., and Hahnville-based Otto Candies will play the Peake-Refuel winner. Deanie’s Seafood is eliminated.
Peake BMW, Refuel, and Otto Candies have all advanced to the state tournament on July 19-23 at Delgado Community College.
Peake BMW (17-4-1) almost started swiftly when Kyler Johnston led off in the game with a single and stole second and third. But after a walk, the Brother Martin-based squad was unable to bring Johnston home.
Deanie’s (11-9) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Tyler Neece hit an RBI double that brought in Scott Wetzel. Chase Fourcade then hit a single that brought home Neece.
In the third with two outs, Deanie’s center fielder Ashanti Wheatley hit an RBI triple that brought in Neece for a 3-0 lead.
Peake made a charge with a three-run fifth inning. Parker Oubre reached on a walk and came home when Johnston hit into a double play. Michael Kirsch then reached on error on the first baseman that brought home Luke Bernard. Blair Frederick then reached on an error on the shortstop, scoring Kirsch to tie the game at 3-3.
The Rummel-based squad pulled starting pitcher Chris Boudreaux after he faced one batter in the seventh in favor of Shane Naquin. Boudreaux held Peake to three hits and struck out six.
Peake BMW broke the tie in the seventh when Owen Magee hit a double with two outs that brought home Johnston for a 4-3 lead.
Peake pulled starting hurler Jarrett Gongora for Doug Fair. Gongora allowed eight hits and struck out two.
