An 11-team meet set for 8:45 a.m. Saturday will officially open the high school swimming regular season in the Baton Rouge metro area.

Defending league champions Catholic High and St. Joseph’s Academy help lead the list of teams set to compete in the first Capital City Swim League meet.

Warm-ups begin at 7:30 a.m., setting the stage for the 8:45 a.m. start time at the Crawfish Aquatics pool.

Other teams scheduled to compete include St. Michael the Archangel, Christian Life, The Dunham School, Denham Springs, Episcopal, East Ascension, East Iberville, Parkview Baptist and Walker.

Team captains Grant Grenfell and Colin Finnegan help lead the way for Catholic.

Maria Palermo, Kelly Smith and Helen Bone are the captains for St. Joseph’s.

Breaststroke competitor Cameron Balkom, of SJA, sprint freestyle competitors Gabrielle and Hannah Core of East Ascension and backstroker Juliana White, of Episcopal, are among the other notable girls competitors.

Parkview’s John Miller (distance freestyle), Catholic’s Brian Primeaux (butterfly, backstroke), Parkview’s Dainon Miles (backstroke) and Catholic’s Chase Dansereau (breaststroke) are among the boys competitors to note.
