HOUMA — Destrehan keeps on rolling.

Looking to wrap up at least a share of the District 7-5A championship Friday night, the Wildcats took no chances, crushing H.L. Bourgeois in the first half en route to an easy 44-20 victory.

Destrehan (9-0, 6-0), the second-ranked team in Class 5A, can finish off a perfect regular season next week with a win against East St. John. Destrehan remains one game ahead of second-place Thibodaux in 7-5A play, but the Wildcats hold the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to their thrilling 21-14 win at Thibodaux in Week 6.

On Friday, against the Braves, Destrehan took a 44-0 lead into halftime, lifted by the play of quarterback Marquis Darensbourg and receiver Alfred Smith, who connected for two touchdowns before the break.

Darensbourg finished with 133 passing yards. He added 59 rushing yards and two scores.

The Wildcats led 24-0 after one quarter and never looked back.

H.L. Bourgeois (1-8, 0-6), the last-place team in 7-5A, scored three touchdowns in the second half after Destrehan pulled many of its starters.

The Braves finish their season next week against archrival Terrebonne.

CHALMETTE 27, BONNABEL 7: Masen Mitchell and Jayvon Lewis each ran for more than 100 yards for the third consecutive game as Chalmette (4-5) improved to 3-1 in District 8-5A. Mitchell ran for 119 yards on 22 carries while Lewis ran it 13 times for 100 yards including a four yard rushing touchdown. Dominic Curole went 12-15 with 140 yards passing and a 35-yard touchdown pass to William Wei. Montrell Howard caught five passes for 52 yards to set the school’s single season school reception record with 35. Juan Esparza added a 49-yard field goal, the second longest field goal in school history.

Maurice Britton had a four yard rushing touchdown for Bonnabel (2-7)1-3.

WEST. ST. JOHN 30, ST. JOHN 6: In Plaquemine, Lamore Boudin ran for three touchdowns as West St. John, the fifth-ranked team in Class 1A, took the lead in District 8-1A. The Rams improved to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in district.

Boudin scored on runs of 6, 23, and 25 yards as the Rams jumped out to a 24-0 lead. Jermaine Green added a 7-yard scoring run and Anferenee Lumar kicked a 23-yard field goal for West St. John.

Collin Crockett scored the only touchdown for St. John (1-8, 1-3) on a 10-yard pass from Clay Payne.

E.D. WHITE 32, ASSUMPTION 12: In Thibodaux, Nik Shanklin and Jeremy Round each ran for a pair of touchdowns as E.D. White (6-3, 2-1) took the nondistrict win.

Shanklin led all rushers with 109 yards on 15 carries and scored on runs of 1 and 30 yards. Rounds added 3 and 5-yard TD runs as E.D. White rushed for 319 yards. Connor Chiasson tossed an 8-yard scoring pass to Ben Sposito for the other Cardinal score.

Daron Williams ran for a 2-yard score and tossed a 12-yard scoring pass to Jimmie Wise for Assumption (2-7, 1-2).

PINE 22, NORTHLAKE CHRISTIAN 14: In Covington, Derrick Dillon rushed for 125 yards as Pine took an early lead and held off the Wolverines in District 7-2A play.

The Raiders (5-3, 3-2) had 213 rushing yards and converted two first-quarter turnovers into a 14-0 lead.

Northlake Christian (7-2, 3-2) rebounded in the second half, getting two touchdowns from Miguel Black. But the Wolverines couldn’t close the gap.

Pine finishes the regular season at home next week against St. Helena Central.
