McDonogh 35 moved a step closer to a second straight trip to the Top 28 Tournament.

The No. 10 Roneagles had little trouble on the road at Opelousas, rolling to an 80-58 victory over the No. 26-seeded team in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

McDonogh 35 will play No. 2 Washington-Marion in the quarterfinals, with the winner going to Lake Charles and the state tournament.

With the Roneagles’ win, there are now seven New Orleans area teams with a chance to reach the Top 28.

The seven teams are: St. Augustine and Bonnabel (5A); Karr and McDonogh 35 (4A); De La Salle (3A); Riverside and Country Day (2A).

Bossier 58, Ben Franklin 29: Ben Franklin’s storybook season came to an end Wednesday.

Bossier, a No. 4 seed, ended the No. 13 seeded visitors season in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

The Falcons finished 23-5 after winning the District 9-4A championship.

Bossier will host No. 5 Ellender in the quarterfinals.
