MVP: Zach Albright, St. Paul’s
Albright won the Class 5A state title in the 1,600 meters, setting a class record with a time of 4 minutes, 12.82 seconds. He also was second in the 3,200 meters (9:25) behind teammate D.C. Lipani to help St. Paul’s to fourth place at the meet. Albright’s selection as Boys Track Athlete of the Year is just his latest accomplishment; he was named Louisiana’s Gatorade Athlete of the Year in the fall as well as The New Orleans Advocate’s co-Cross-Country Runner of the Year. He will run at Princeton.
Coach of the Year: P reston Curtis, John Curtis
Curtis led the Patriots to their fifth consecutive outdoor title and 10th overall by capturing the Class 3A state championship.
Donte Jackson, Riverdale
4A champ in the 100 (10.42) and 200 (21.42), including best 100 time in all classes.
Massimo Vancheri, Mandeville
Finished fourth in the Class 5A meet in the 400 meters with a time of 48.94 seconds.
Devyn Keith, John Curtis
Sophomore distance runner won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 as Curtis won its fifth straight title.
D.C. Lapani, St. Paul’s
The 5A champion in the 3200 meters finished in 9:20.50.
Brandon Singleton, Hahnville
He won the 300 hurdles (37.43) and was second in the 100 hurdles (13.91).
Willie Reed, Lusher
Reed won the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches) and had state’s best long jump (24-3.75).
Anthony Milton, Landry-Walker
Milton finished fifth in the 4A triple jump with a leap of 45-6.5.
Robert Kennedy, Belle Chasse
Kennedy won the Class 4A discus with a throw of 157 feet.
Austin Schott, Jesuit
Schott finished seventh in the Class 5A pole vault, going 13 feet.
Thomas Peters, Brother Martin
Peters finished fourth in the Class 5A javelin with a throw of 176-11.
Michael Seithers, Fontainebleau
Seithers won the shot put with a throw of 53-6.
Terrence Alexander, John Curtis
Alexander won the Class 3A 200 meter title (21.91) and was second in the 100 (10.80).
Darius Birden, Higgins
Birden finished second in the Class 5A 200 (21.86).
Najee Robinson, Karr
Finished second in the 4A 100 meters (10.73) and ran on the winning 4x100 relay team.
Kirk Merritt, Destrehan
Merritt finished second in the 100 meters in Class 5A (10.68).
