Panos Bountovinas has been named the new girls basketball coach at Salmen.

Salmen Athletic Director Jerry Leonard and assistant principal Saudah Blackman-Stokes confirmed the hiring Thursday morning. Bountovinas coached two seasons at Mount Carmel, leading the Cubs to the Class 5A state championship in 2014. He resigned, citing personal reasons, before last season.

He replaces Kevin Anderson, who stepped down after this past season when the Spartans finished as the Class 4A runner-up.

Anderson, who was coach for 10 seasons, guided Salmen to back-to-back 4A titles in 2013 and 2014.

Bountovinas was named Coach of the Year on The New Orleans Advocate’s All-Metro Team in 2014.
