Ben Franklin soccer coach Jose Ferrand admits it was a little stressful.

A boys soccer game in Alexandria at 3 p.m. Friday and a girls game at 6:30 p.m. in Lafayette.

He made the trip to both and it was well worth it as the Ben Franklin boys and girls teams won in the Division II semifinals and will get a chance to go for the double repeat next week.

The Ben Franklin boys defeated Bolton 5-0 and the girls beat St. Thomas More 5-3.

“This was good for the Ben Franklin family,” Ferrand said. “It’s hard trying to repeat, so I am extremely proud of both groups for getting back. I’m hoping we can pull off the double again. I’ve coached soccer for 20 years, and it felt like club soccer going from field to field. We dealt with the adversity, and it was a good experience.”

Miles McGuire scored three goals, and Donte Oliver scored the other two for the boys team, which improved to 20-4-3.

The Falcons will play the winner of Saturday’s Beau Chene-Vandebilt Catholic match for the title next week.

In the girls game, it was LSU signee Alex Thomas who scored four goals to give the girls team a chance for a third consecutive title. Noelle Higginson scored the other goal.

“We pretty much controlled the second half,” Ferrand said. “Give credit to St. Thomas More because they put a lot of pressure on our defense.”

The Falcons (22-0-2) will play top-seed Loyola Prep in the championship match.

Girls

Loyola Prep 2, Lakeshore 0: Top-seeded Loyola Prep blanked No. 5 Lakeshore to advance to the Division II championship game.

The Titans had outscored their first three playoff opponents 12-0 before getting shutout on Friday.

Boys

St. Louis 4, Newman 1: The Greenies saw their season come to an end with a loss to the No. 1 seed in the Division III semifinals.

St. Louis will play the winner of Saturday’s match between Northlake Christian and University High.
