Cheyenne Triche didn’t allow a hit and had five strikeouts in Riverside’ Academy’s four-inning 15-0 victory over Haynes Academy in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Triche, a junior, improved to 11-3 on the season as the Rebels (20-5) extended their winning streak to 15 games.
“Some days Cheyenne is lights out, and today was one of those days,” first-year Riverside coach Tamra Regalo said. “All of her pitches were working.”
Riverside, the No. 2 seed, will host No. 15 Fisher in the second round, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals in Sulphur next week.
Fisher beat Oak Grove 3-2 on Monday.
The Rebels made it to the semifinals last season.
Madison Watson led Riverside at the plate, going 2-for 3 with a triple, a single and four RBIs.
“Our batters have gotten better not just physically, but also mentally,” Regalo said. “I think as a coaching staff, we have worked really well with the hitters.”
Ouachita Parish 7, Dominican 3: Ouachita Parish, the No. 4 seed, beat No. 29 Dominican in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.
Ouachita Parish advances to the second round and will play the winner of Tuesday’s Destrehan-Alexandria game.
North DeSoto 11, Riverdale 0: Riverdale, the No. 32 seed, saw its season end after five innings when it lost to top seed North DeSoto in the Class 4A playoffs.
Riverdale finished 13-11.
Notre Dame 15, Louise McGehee 0: Notre Dame, the No. 9 seed in Class 3A, needed just three innings to get past No. 24 Louise McGehee.
Notre Dame advances to the second round and will travel to play No. 25 Loranger, which upset No. 8 North Webster 3-2.
Kaplan 13, Thomas Jefferson 0: Kaplan eliminated Thomas Jefferson in five innings in the Class 3A playoffs.
Thomas Jefferson, which won the District 10-3A title, finished 12-12.
