Barbe took advantage of a series of first inning mistakes by St. Amant to piece together a three-run rally in a game otherwise dominated by pitchers to win Game 1 of its Class 5A baseball quarterfinal series with St. Amant 3-0 on Friday.

The series resumes at noon Saturday with Game 2. Game 3 will be 30 minutes after Game 2 finishes, if necessary.

Adam Goree (9-0) threw a four-hit shutout for Barbe, which has allowed only one run over four playoff games, all wins.

Blayne Enlow struck out nine and allowed only three hits for St. Amant (19-14).

Barbe (32-6) scored all its runs in the first inning, taking advantage of two walks, two hit batters, two wild pitches and an error.

Antonio Gauthier reached on a wild pitch on a third strike to lead off the inning and scored on a safety squeeze bunt single by Brogan McNease. Tanner Littleton was hit by a pitch and scored on an error after being caught in a rundown between third and home.

Carter Quinn, running for McNease, scored on a wild pitch to cap the scoring.
