Delmas Holmes Scotlandville

Running Back

By the numbers: Holmes ran for 190 yards on 14 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns in the Hornets’ win over Walker in Week 6. He also caught a 50-yard TD pass from Levi Lewis.

What the numbers mean: With 190 yards last week and 210 yards in a Week 5 win over Central, Holmes is becoming not only a consistent runner but also one of the Baton Rouge area’s breakout players.

Scotlandville coach Eric Randall said: “We brought Delmas and the seven or eight guys on the offensive line along slower because this was new for most of them. It’s good see him finding holes and making plays the way he has.”

Christy Dearie Parkview Baptist

Outside hitter

By the numbers: It was all about the percentages for Dearie and the Eagles last week. She posted a .750 hitting percentage and five aces against Baker and had a .417 hitting percentage with six digs in a win over Livonia.

What the numbers mean: One of the Eagles’ strengths is their ability to transition from defense to offense in a quick, smooth way. Dearie is one of the players who helps embody those qualities.

PBS coach Becky Madden said: “I feel like we have a lot of balance on our team this year and we’ve had different people who have stepped up at different times. Christy is one of those players who has done that for us.”
