It will be a district rematch between two north shore powerhouse programs Saturday morning for the Division IV state championship.

Archbishop Hannan advanced to the Division IV title game after a marathon five-game win over Notre Dame in the semifinals Friday, winning 25-23, 25-21, 18-25, 15-25, 15-11.

The Hawks (35-7) advance to take on top-seeded Pope John Paul II in the state championship match at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

“I don’t know what happened in the third and fourth games of the match,” Hannan coach Rebekka Bonnaffee said. “We were able to play well in the first two games and come away with important wins. Games three and four just weren’t going our way. We knew we had to change the momentum.”

Hannan was led by Hailey Cabeceiras who had 26 kills and 17 digs.

Freshman Allee Morris had 16 kills and three blocks and Tatum Ballard had 49 set assists and 18 digs in the win for the Hawks.

Grace Morgan led Notre Dame with a game-high 30 kills and seven blocks. Sammi Leger had 51 in the loss.

Pope John Paul II 3, Sacred Heart 0: Pope John Paul easily defeated Sacred Heart in three games, 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 to advance to their second consecutive Division IV state championship match.

Sarah Trosclair and Marlena Cutura led the Jaguars with nine kills apiece and Trosclair had nine blocks. Cutura also had 28 digs. Sacred Heart (31-11) was led by Ellie Silvia who had 11 kills and 10 digs.

Avery Hardie added eight kills and three aces in the loss.
