Schools in Classes 3A and 2A voted to approve best-of-three games baseball series for their second-round and quarterfinal playoffs, effective this spring, during Thursday afternoon class meetings at the LHSAA’s annual convention.

The votes put those classes in line with Classes 5A and 4A, which previously had the best-of-three format option.

Principals in Class 5A also voted to approve regional-qualifying meets for cross country during their class meeting held at the Crowne Plaza.

Bonnaffee, Riche picked

The LHSAA’s executive committee elected its officers for 2016, re-electing Vic Bonnaffee of Central Catholic-Morgan City as president by a 12-10 margin over Assumption’s Niles Riche during its meeting that followed the class meetings.

Riche was then elected as the vice president. Bonnaffee and Riche must be approved during the Friday vote of the general assembly.

New Orleans Advocate high school writer Rod Walker received the LHSAA’s Prep Journalism award during the LHSAA convention luncheon on Thursday.

Walker is in his third year of coordinating coverage for The New Orleans Advocate in all high school sports. He previously covered high school sports for the Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi, and was the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Division I Prep Writer of the Year for 2014.
