The Grace King Fighting Irish used their ground game to defeat Sci Academy 50-8 Saturday afternoon at Joe Yenni Stadium.

Derrick Friloux led the way for the Irish, running for 201 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. The defense also came up huge by forcing three turnovers

The win improved the Irish to 3-5 on the season, surpassing their win total from last season.

Grace King opened the game with a successful onside kick. The Irish drove inside the Sci 10, but turned it over on downs. They did put Sci in poor field position, however, and it led to a safety on a blocked punt in the end zone.

Friloux then scored on a 40-yard run following the free kick to put the Irish up 8-0 after a missed two-point attempt.

August Williams returned another blocked punt 35 yards to the Sci 7. Friloux scored again on the next play, putting King up 16-0 after a successful two-point attempt.

King got on the board again after stopping Sci on fourth down by converting its own fourth-down attempt with a double-reverse touchdown run by Leronta Butler. They got the ball back on a fumble recovery, and Russell Kelly took it in from a yard out to make the score 30-0.

King led 36-0 at halftime after a 14-yard touchdown run by Leronta Butler.

Quarterback Anthony Marino passed the ball just one time in the first half, completing it to Butler for 7 yards. Friloux led all rushers with 70 yards on just six carries. The Irish had 163 total yards at the break.

Sci Academy had more yards in penalties than offense.

Grace King found the end zone two more times in the second half. The first touchdown came on a 2-yard run by Williams. Its final score was a 91-yard run by Friloux with 16 seconds left.

On the ensuing kickoff, Sci Academy finally got on the board with a 96-yard kickoff return by Davon Raymond.
