The Advocate sports staff writes about the success stories of local high school athletes. And each year, we honor a number of those athletes with our annual Star of Stars/Athlete of the Year banquet.

Now is the time for local coaches and administrators to nominate their top athletes for our 2016 awards ceremony in May. The Advocate sports staff will select one boys winner and one girls winner from the nominees.

Athletes of the Year nominees must be in grades 10 to 12 and on track to meet the NCAA’s academic qualifying standards. Schools should submit a complete list of their athlete’s accomplishments in 2015-16, including statistics, postseason honors, etc.

Nominations can be faxed to Robin Fambrough at (225) 388-0318 or emailed to rfambrough@theadvocate.com. The deadline is May 4.

In addition to selecting a top overall athlete for boys and girls, The Advocate sports staff also will select the Star of Stars in 15 different sports.

Nominations from relatives and others not affiliated with a school will not be accepted. Email Fambrough with any questions about the nomination process.
