D’Morea Wicks

Plaquemine

The numbers: Wicks played quarterback and running back and ran for 185 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. The junior also passed for 97 yards and another TD in the Green Devils’ 47-20 victory over Brusly on Friday night.

What the numbers mean: Wicks was the featured player in a dominant offensive effort and would have finished with more rushing yards but a snap over his head resulted in a 21-yard loss.

Plaquemine coach Paul Distefano said: “He’s the leader of our offense without a doubt. He’s special with the ball in his hands who in his heart always wants to win. He is very elusive and never takes too many solid shots. His speed is deceptive and he has great vision. He’s a great kid, and a 4.0 student, too.”

Sydney Davis

St. Joseph’s Academy

The numbers: Davis is an outside hitter who finished with 18 kills, 35 digs, 7 blocks and 5 service aces in two victories last week, including a huge win over Mount Carmel Academy in a Division I final rematch.

What the numbers mean: SJA has a talented, balanced lineup and though Davis’ play can get lost in the shuffle she has the knack for making big plays. She finished with 10 kills, 22 digs and 5 aces in the victory over MCA.

SJA coach Sivi Miller said: “She is aggressive on both offense as well as defense. As an outside hitter, Sydney aids her team with her attacks as well as with blocking. She is a key component to our defense. She is a team player that is a leader through her court presence.”
