Covington (5-5) at Carencro (8-2)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Covington (25), Carencro (8) in 5A

THE BUZZ: Carencro is on a roll this season after finishing 3-7 last year. The Bears have played defense well enough and a led by the running of Tyeik Campbell and quarterback Tyler Gaspard. Covington has lost three of the past five games.

St. Amant (6-4) at Acadiana (6-4)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: St. Amant (18), Carencro (15) in 5A

THE BUZZ: Acadiana is the defending champion. St. Amant is no stranger to the Rams since the teams scrimmage annually. The Rams have begun to find their offensive punch late in the season. Some are predicting a deep run into the playoffs for AHS. St. Amant is on a three-game win streak and has scored 106 points in the past three games.

East Jefferson (6-4) at Crowley (8-2)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: East Jefferson (20), Crowley (13) in 4A

THE BUZZ: East Jefferson is a defending champion in this class. EJHS is rising to the occasion with four wins in the last five games. Crowley became one of the top teams in 4-4A, losing only to LaGrange in district. The Gents have played good defense and enjoyed the rushing of Ty’Von Griffin and the throwing of quarterback Pate Broussard.

Leesville (6-4) at Rayne (8-2)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Leesville (19), Rayne (14)

THE BUZZ: Rayne has had a consistent season, losing to only the top two teams in 4-4A. Rayne also has a backfield featuring three players who have either gained or thrown for 1,000 or more yards. Playoff-tested Leesville started 0-2 but has won four of its past five.

West Ouachita (7-3) at Breaux Bridge (6-3)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: West Ouachita (18), Breaux Bridge (15) in 4A

THE BUZZ: Breaux Bridge is a playoff veteran team with a good defense. The Tigers play a team that is on a two-game losing streak and has been defeated three of the past five times.

Holy Cross (5-5) at Teurlings (8-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Holy Cross (10), Teurlings (7) in Select Division I

THE BUZZ: Holy Cross played in a tough New Orleans Catholic League. Holy Cross lost four of its past five games in 9-5A. Teurlings reigned as the champion in 5-4A. TCHS chose to play up in classification this season, and the Rebels are led by an offense guided by quarterback Cole Kelley.

Westminster Christian (1-9) at Opelousas Catholic (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Westminster (13), OC (4) in Select Division III

THE BUZZ: These two district and crosstown rivals played last week with Opelousas Catholic winning 49-7 in a game that WCA sustained a 7-0 lead. OC’s only defeat this season came against Catholic-New Iberia, the top seed in Division III.

Brusly (3-7) at Church Point (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Brusly (31), Church Point (2) in 3A

THE BUZZ: Brusly is on a two-game winning streak and played a difficult schedule. Church Point won nine straight before losing last week to Livonia 24-21 in a 5-3A showdown. The Bears have one of the best offenses in Class 3A, averaging nearly 40 points.

Richwood (3-7) at Patterson (7-3)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Richwood (26), Patterson (7) in 3A

THE BUZZ: Patterson enters the playoffs with a strong seven-game finish. The Lumberjacks started 0-3. Richwoord has lost three of the last four. Don’t be surprised to see Patterson playing late into this month.

North Vermilion (4-6) at Buckeye (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: NVHS (27), Buckeye (6) in 3A

THE BUZZ: Some think this could be an upset win for North Vermilion, which has played better as the year has progressed. Buckeye has won of its strongest teams in years, with the best record in school history. Buckeye, which started football in the mid-1960’s, has never won a football playoff game.

Miller-McCoy (4-6) at Jennings (7-3)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Miller-McCoy (22). Jennings (11) in 3A

THE BUZZ: Jennings, many feel, has the team to make a deep playoff run. Jennings withered a bit at mid-season, but the Bulldogs have won three of their past four. Miller-McCoy has lost three of its past five. Three of the defeats overall have come against St. Charles, Landry-Walker and Warren Easton.

Northwest (4-6) at Kaplan (7-3)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Northwest (20), Kaplan 13) in 3A

THE BUZZ: Northwest and Kaplan both had strong finishes during the regular season. Northwest was third in 5-3A, losing only to Church Point and Livonia. Kaplan was second to 6-3A champion Notre Dame. Kaplan has won seven straight.

Hanson (6-4) at St. Mary’s (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Hanson (15). St. Mary’s (2) in Select IV

THE BUZZ: A tough first-round draw for a Hanson team that tied for fourth among seven 7-1A teams. St. Mary’s remained among the Top 10 in the LSWA polls all season. St. Mary’s has won five in a row.

Delhi Charter (6-4) at Central Catholic (8-2)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Delhi Charter (14), Central Catholic (3) in Select IV

THE BUZZ: Tommy Minton has Central Catholic as a No. 3 seed in his first season back at the school. CCMC is on a hot streak, winning five in a row. Delhi’s route has been the opposite, losing three in a row after starting 5-0.

Ascension Episcopal (7-3) at Hamilton Christian (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: AES (13), Hamilton (4) in Select Division IV

THE BUZZ: Ascension Episcopal finished third in a tough Disitrict 7-1A. Hamilton Christian has developed a competitive athletic program. Hamilton has won eight straight.

Houma Christian (6-4) at Vermilion Catholic (9-1)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Houma Christian (16), Vermilion Catholic (1) in Select Division IV

THE BUZZ: Vermilion Catholic is the favorite among many to win a second straight title in the division. Houma Christian got into the playoffs after finishing in a three-way tie for first place in 9-1A. Houma Christian ended in a three-way tie for first in 9-1A after beating Country Day.

Country Day (7-3) at St. Edmund (6-3)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Country Day 10, St. Edmund 7 in Select Division IV

THE BUZZ: Both teams can score. This appears on paper to be one of the better matchups in the playoffs. St. Edmund uses its spread offense with quarterback Drew Brown and an arsenal of receivers to average nearly 35 points a game. Country Day has lost two straight heading into the playoffs.Delcambre (4-6) at Vinton (6-4)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Delcambre (22), Vinton (11) in 2A

THE BUZZ: Delcambre finished fourth in a tough District 5-2A behind three other playoff teams. Vinton is 2-3 coming out of weak district.

Bunkie (3-7) at Oakdale (5-5)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Bunkie (20), Oakdale (13) in 2A

THE BUZZ: Bunkie started the season 0-4, but the Panthers ended the district schedule 2-3. Oakdale lost three of its past four games. The Warriors have also allowed 104 points in the past two games.

Jonesboro-Hodge (4-6) at Loreauville (6-4)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: Jonesboro-Hodge (25), Loreauville (8)

THE BUZZ: Loreauville’s playoff seed is a testimony to a tough district and non-district schedule. The only losses in district for the Tigers were to top-seeded Catholic High and No. 4 Opelousas Catholic. Jonesboro has been defeated in six of its past seven games.

North Central (1-9) at Block (5-5)

PLAYOFF SEEDS: NCHS (22). Block (11) in 1A

THE BUZZ: Block started the season 0-4. North Central ended the season 0-4. Block is a power running team while North Central is in the playoffs for a second straight year despite winning only twice in the last two years.
