Mount Carmel freshman Taylor Garcia

Outstanding Player

Fr. Taylor Garcia, Mount Carmel

Taylor Garcia made a big splash in her first season of varsity tennis.

The Mount Carmel freshman won the girls singles championship in Division I, beating last year’s champion and 2014 Metro Player of the Year, Haley Tucker of Dominican, in the finals.

Garcia, the state’s top-ranked player, went undefeated this season and helped lead Mount Carmel to a second-place finish.

“I think it is a huge honor to receive an award like this as only a freshman in high school,” Garcia said. “Since I was 9 years old, tennis has been a major part of my life between training and traveling to tournaments. I believe it’s all been worth it. I’m looking forward to my high school career preparing me to one day play in college.”
