Girls cross country
Gabbi Chauvin, St. Joseph’s Academy
Chauvin’s track specialties include the 400 and 800 meters. She reinforced her cross country role with a three-mile personal best of 18 minutes, 45 seconds to place sixth at the St. Joseph’s Invitational on Saturday. The time shattered Chauvin’s previous best by 30 seconds.
“The weather was cool, and I thought I could run a fast time,” Chauvin said. “When I got to the mile mark, my split was a lot faster than we expected.
“So I started trying to pass people and put everything I had into it.”
Boys cross country
Thomas Kelton, Denham Springs
Kelton garnered his third top-10 finish in as many weeks and also posted a personal best three-mile time of 15 minutes, 30 seconds at the St. Joseph’s Academy Invitational. He finished ninth and outdistanced his previous best by more than 17 seconds.
“I knew I was going to run a fast time because of the conditions,” Kelton said. “My previous best was run at the same meet last year. I got to the mile mark in five minutes, which was what we projected. From there, I worked the hills and kept going.”
