Kenny Sears’ 4-yard touchdown pass to Matt Meyers on fourth-and-goal with 7 seconds remaining gave the St. Paul’s Wolves a thrilling 26-25 victory over Karr in the season opener for both teams Friday in a nondistrict game at St. Paul’s.

The Wolves started their final possession at their own 31-yard line with 2:01 remaining. The eight-play drive included a 34-yard pass to Timothy Bedford on third-and-5 and got the Wolves to the Cougars’ 9 with 1:20 to go.

St. Paul’s led the whole game until Karr took a 25-20 lead with 2:01 remaining.

NOTRE DAME 24, LaGRANGE 14: Three different runners scored touchdowns as Notre Dame opened its season with a win.

Joe Faulk scored on an 8-yard run, Lance Bertrand added a 7-yard scoring run, and Brad Stoma scored from the 1 to seal the win for the Pioneers.

Notre Dame outgained the Gators 358-166 yards with the Pioneers defense also picking off a pass.

JOHN CURTIS 14, MANDEVILLE 0: Senior running back Dontae Jones had 151 carries and pair of touchdowns to lead John Curtis to a season-opening win over Mandeville on Friday night at Sidney Theriot Stadium.

After forcing Mandeville to punt, Jones went 86 yards on the ensuing play to help give John Curtis a 7-0 lead midway through the second period.

Jones later added a 3-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter to cap a seven-play, 80-yard drive to make it 14-0 Patriots.

CHURCH POINT 35, BEAU CHENE 7: Deion Monroe ran for 102 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns as Church Point scored 28 points in the first half to earn the nondistrict win.

Monroe scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards while Troy Matte tossed a 56-yard scoring pass to Frederick Williams and a 4-yard scoring strike to Tyler Wheeler.

BREAUX BRIDGE 22, NEW IBERIA 3: Drake Guidry threw for one score and ran for another as the Tigers knocked off the Yellow Jackets.

Guidry opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 1-yard run.

Breaux Bridge upped the lead to 9-0 when Diondre Wilson blocked a punt for a safety.

Cy Kipp kicked a 25-yard field goal to cut the lead to 9-3 in the second quarter, but the Tigers scored 13 unanswered points.

RAYNE 33, ST. EDMUND 6: In Ville Platte, Jaylon Reed threw three touchdown passes as Rayne successfully opened the season with a convincing win.

Rayne racked up 396 yards in total offense.

VILLE PLATTE 38, WESTMINSTER 9: In Ville Platte, Terese Thomas ran for 197 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 64 and 6 yards as Ville Platte cruised to the win.

Quarterback Terez Alford ran for a 7-yard touchdown and threw a 47-yard scoring strike Oxabein Serie and Daylan Thomas scored on a 7-yard run and ran a WCA fumble back 38 yards for a TD.

The Bulldogs finished with 419 yards rushing.

ST. THOMAS MORE 43, SULPHUR 26: In Lafayette, William Bellamy tossed a 51-yard scoring pass to Tiger Bech and Deuce Wallace ran for a score as St. Thomas More knocked off the Tors.

Derrick Guidry had a pair of scoring runs for Sulphur.
