Your team lost its first two games and now is on a five-game winning streak. What is the difference between the team in Weeks 1-2 and now?

“As a team, we had to find ourselves. We have a lot of guys, especially on defense, who hadn’t started on the varsity before. We lost to some very good teams. It took the them a while to get used to the speed of the game and playing together.”

How did your role change this year?

“After we lost in the quarterfinals last year, the coaches brought me in and told me the ball was going to be in my hands more. I knew I had to get better at throwing and running the ball. I worked on that all summer.”

With running back Derrius Guice moving on to LSU, the role of RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire has gotten bigger. Talk about how the offense has changed for Edwards-Helaire and the receivers?

“Clyde started playing on the freshman team when he was in the eighth grade. He’s always been fast, but now he’s stronger, so he more of a power back. Our receivers have come a long way since the start of the season. They really know their roles. I think we’re all working well together.”

Talk about the improvement of the defense.

“We have the most new starters on defense, and once those guys adjusted to what they need to do, they’ve played great. They’ve made a big difference.”

What does Catholic have to do against St. Amant to be successful?

“We need to make plays. St. Amant is a great team. The fact that they lost last week doesn’t matter. On defense, we need to do some things to limit them throwing the ball. On offense, we need to be able to control the ball.” Compiled by Robin Fambrough
