Sam Houston (5-2, 2-2)

at Acadiana (4-3, 3-1)

Last year: Acadiana won 35-17.

The buzz: A key game in competitive 3-5A. Sam Houston sped to an auspicious start this season but has had difficulties once league play began. For Acadiana it has been the opposite. The Rams are the league leaders with several others.

Comeaux (3-4, 1-3) at Barbe (5-2, 3-1)

Last year: Barbe won 42-12.

The buzz: Comeaux has struggled a bit since the start of 3-5A. Some thought Barbe would have a down year because of the loss of key players. The Buccaneers, however, are right in the thick of the league race.

Sulphur (4-3, 3-1)

at Lafayette (4-3, 1-3)

Last year: Sulphur won 21-17.

The buzz: Sulphur has remained among the leaders in a tight 3-5A race. Lafayette started the year 3-0, but the Lions have had problems once district began. The game has obvious significance for both teams.

Beau Chene (3-4, 1-2) at LaGrange (3-4, 3-0)

Last year: LaGrange won 52-14.

The buzz: LaGrange has hit its stride since the start of District 4-4A. The Gators will use a powerful running game featuring Markell Hawthorne. Beau Chene already has more wins than last season.

Crowley (5-2, 3-1)

at Rayne (5-2, 2-1)

Last year: Crowley won 52-48.

The buzz: This game has major significance in 4-4A. Crowley has offensive weapons in running back Ty’Von Griffin and wide receiver Jacq’co Price. Rayne’s rushing attack features several power backs. This is the marquee game this week in 4-4A. Rayne is ranked eighth.

Vermilion Catholic (5-1, 3-0) at Eunice (3-4, 1-3)

Last year: VC won 21-6.

The buzz: VC is ranked third in the latest Class 1A state poll. The Eagles have their offense rolling once again. Eunice needs in a win in this nondistrict game in order to have hopes of reaching the playoffs.

Opelousas (1-6, 0-3)

at Washing.-Marion (3-4, 2-1)

Last year: Washington – Marion won 41-14.

The buzz: It’s been a long time since Opelousas has won a football game in Calcasieu Parish. The Tigers, who have been mistake prone and penalty-plagued, have a tough time again against a talented WMSH team that has a versatile offense.

Cecilia (3-4, 2-2)

at Breaux Bridge (5-2, 3-1)

Last year: Breaux Bridge won 54-26.

The buzz: Cecilia broke a two-game losing streak last week, but the Bulldogs have a tough task at St. Martin Parish rival BBHS, ranked ninth in Class 4A. An interesting 5-4A matchup features Cecilia running back Raymond Calais against a tough Breaux Bridge defense.

St. Thomas More (6-1, 2-1)

at Northside (4-3, 2-1)

Last year: STM won 41-0.

The buzz: STM dropped to fifth place after last week’s defeat to Teurlings in a classic crosstown matchup. The Cougars’ quick-scoring offense will be matched against a Northside defense that has allowed some points this season.

Ascension Episcopal (5-1, 2-0) at Gueydan (0-6, 0-2)

Last year: AES won 55-6.

The buzz: AES tries to keep pace among the leaders in 7-1A. Gueydan has had its chances this season, but the Bears are still winless.

Hanson Memorial (4-2, 2-1)

at Highland (4-2, 1-1)

Last year: Hanson won 56-38.

The buzz: Another key matchup in 7-1A. The winner of the game continues to ascend among the other teams in the district.

KIPP Renaissance (2-5, 0-2)

at Westgate (1-6, 0-4)

Last year: Teams did not play.

The buzz: Westgate has one of the younger teams in 5-4A. The Tigers step outside 5-4A this week. KIPP is in the early stages of establishing a football program.

Port Barre (2-5, 9-2)

at Church Point (7-0, 2-0)

Last year: Church Point won 31-8.

The buzz: Port Barre has not scored twice in the past two weeks — both 5-3A games. Church Point is ranked No. 5 this week. The Bears are averaging over 30 points a game .

Ville Platte (3-4, 2-0)

at Livonia (6-0, 2-0)

Last year: Livonia won 50-25.

The buzz: Ville Platte has experienced injuries and offensively the Bulldogs have been restaffed by younger players. Livonia is maintaining its status as the team to beat in 5-3A. Livonia is ranked No. 6 this week.

Abbeville (0-7, 0-2)

at Notre Dame (5-2, 2-0)

Last year: Notre Dame won 59-0.

The buzz: Abbeville appears headed for another winless season. Notre Dame is ranked No. 6 in Class 3A.

Erath (3-4, 1-2)

at Kaplan (5-2, 2-0)

Last year: Kaplan won 47-39.

The buzz: Erath had a difficult time against Notre Dame last week. EHS faces another top team in the district at Kaplan. The Pirates are on a five-game winning streak and challenging Notre Dame for the top spot in the league.

West St. Mary (0-7, 0-2)

at North Vermilion (1-6, 0-2)

Last year: North Vermilion won 14-12.

The buzz: WSM has a young team and a winless record. North Vermilion is also experiencing its problems.

Catholic-NI (7-0, 2-0) at

Opelou. Catholic (7-0, 2-0)

Last year: Catholic-New Iberia won 48-14.

The buzz: The of the top-ranked teams in Class 2A meet in a game that might decide the 5-2A championship. How does OC stop a Catholic-NI offense with numerous weapons?

Jeanerette (2-5, 0-2)

at Delcambre (3-4, 1-1)

Last year: Delcambre won 41-6.

The buzz: Jeanerette at times has not had problems scoring points, especially in its two victories. Delcambre has already won three games despite lacking the numbers of other Class 2A programs.

Loreauville (4-3, 1-1)

at Westminster (0-7, 0-2)

Last year: Loreauville won 62-20.

The buzz: Loreauville hopes to maintain its hopes of sharing the Class 5-2A title. Westminster is still struggling to scoring points. The Crusaders average less than a touchdown per game.

Catholic-PC (2-4, 0-1)

at Sacred Heart (4-3, 2-0)

Last year: Sacred Heart won 41-22.

The buzz: Catholic-Pointe Coupee brings an active offense to Ville Platte featuring a passing game that will present problems for Sacred Heart. The Trojans have won three of the past four games and are challenging for the 5-1A championship.

North Central (1-6, 0-2)

at False River (3-4, 0-1)

Last year: False River won 33-18.

The buzz: North Central has not scored a point in two district games. False River is hoping to elevate its status in 5-1A with a win over the Hurricanes.
