Brock Williamson, Live Oak

Williamson, a linebacker, was a catalyst in the Eagles’ 16-14 milestone victory over Denham Springs in a District 4-5A opener last week. In addition to making all the defensive calls, Williamson also recorded a team-high 12 tackles and recovered a crucial onside kick.

“Stopping that Denham Springs running game was so huge for us,” Williamson said. “It was the difference in the game. I thought we did a good job of making plays as a unit. All I tried to do was make the tackle whenever they ran the ball right at me.”

Jariel Turead, Lutcher

The Bulldogs and Turead enjoyed an epic week, compiling a 7-0 record that included key victories over St. Michael the Archangel and Parkview Baptist. Lutcher also won its own tournament over the weekend. Turead contributed 88 kills, 30 digs, 19 blocks and 10 aces to the Bulldogs’ cause.

“It was a good week for us,” Turead said. “I felt like we really came together and played as one unit. When we got down, we stuck together. I thought my hitting was good last week, but I think my defense was just as important.”
