Warren Easton wide receiver Tyron Johnson is the No. 6 recruit in the country for the Class of 2015, according to Rivals.com’s latest rankings, released Monday.
Johnson caught 87 passes for 1,433 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior and helped the Eagles reach the Class 4A quarterfinals before losing to eventual state champion East Jefferson.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Johnson has been boosted to a five-star rating. He has not made a verbal commitment but has a long list of offers, including nine from Southeastern Conference schools.
Johnson is one of two players from the New Orleans area to crack the top 100. Newman running back Kendall Bussey, who has committed to Nebraska, made the list at No. 78 as a four-star recruit. He rushed 94 times for 974 yards and 18 TDs as a junior, averaging 10.3 yards per carry.
Johnson and Bussey, both members of The New Orleans Advocate’s all-metro team last season, were the only Louisiana players to make the top 100.
