The Advocate is accepting nominations from Baton Rouge metro area schools for its annual Athlete of the Year awards.

Schools are asked to submit the top boys athlete and top girls athlete from their respective schools by April 30. Submit the athlete’s name, classification and a summary of his or her athletic accomplishments in 2013-14, including statistics in each sport listed.

Nominations can be submitted by fax to Robin Fambrough at (225) 388-0318 or by email to Athletes nominated don’t have to be college-bound recruits but should be on track to meet the NCAA’s academic requirements for eligibility.

The boys and girls Athlete of the Year winners will be honored along with the Star of Stars in a cross-section of high school sports next month.

Worsham back to PBS

Former Parkview Baptist football and baseball player Cade Worsham will return to the Eagles as the defensive coordinator on Jay Mayet’s football staff.

Worsham, a 2004 Parkview graduate, started his coaching career at PBS in 2005 and served as an assistant at Central 2009-10, where he was special teams coordinator in 2010. He has been an assistant at Zachary from 2011-13.

Worsham played linebacker on Parkview’s 2001 team that won the school’s first state title in 2001.

LABC clinic

The annual Louisiana Association of Basketball Coaches Clinic is set for May 3 at the LSU Basketball Practice Facility.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and sessions run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $15 for the first high school and $10 for each additional coach from the school’s staff. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Guest speakers include LSU coach Johnny Jones, Southeastern Louisiana University coach Jay Ladner and Northwestern State assistant coaches Jeff Moore and Bill Lewit.

Parkview Baptist swimmer John Miller signed with the University of Cincinnati last week. Miller, a distance standout, is a multiple time All-Metro selection and a Division III record holder.

Three St. Joseph’s Academy athletes are set to sign at a ceremony set for noon Tuesday at the school.

Volleyball players Parker Harrell (Texas State) and Jacie McClure (Louisiana Tech) are scheduled to sign along with distance runner Nicole Kotval (Spring Hill).

Softball Metro meeting

A meeting to select the All-Metro coaches softball teams for the Baton Rouge area is set for 6 p.m. May 8 at Brusly High School.

Area coaches are asked to submit nominations complete with statistics for the players they want to include on the ballot to Brusly coach Beau Bouvier at Players must be first-team all-district selections in order to be nominated for All-Metro teams.
