LAKE CHARLES – Richard Durant scored a game-high 25 points, including five in the final minute to help third-seeded John Curtis upend No. 2 Rayville 72-69 in a Class 3A semifinal that opened Thursday’s action at the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Boys Top 28 tournament.
Durant hit a game-tying 3-pointer and added two free throws with 12.1 seconds left to clinch the win for the Patriots (25-7). Kai Morgan added 21 for JCCS. Curtis advances to play the University-St. Louis winner in the 3A final set for 6 p.m. Saturday at Burton Coliseum.
Jamarion Johnson led Rayville (31-3) with 16 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Michael Williams (13), Kameron Kelly (11) and Decarion Qualls (10) also scored in double digits for RHS.
