Mother Nature was the big winner Friday, causing several baseball games to be postponed, including two Catholic League showdowns.
Holy Cross, the Catholic League leader with a 5-0 District 9-5A mark, was scheduled to play Shaw (1-4 in district), but that game was called after a downpour in Marrero.
“To be blatantly honest, it comes with welcome arms,” Holy Cross coach Greg Battistella said. “We have had a busy stretch, and we’ve played well. We have had a few guys with a few dings, and they could use the extra day of rest.”
The game is rescheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Second-place Rummel (4-1 in league play) was scheduled to play Brother Martin (2-3) Friday night. That game is tentatively set for Sunday at Kirsch Rooney Stadium, but a definite date and time will be determined Saturday. Friday’s game between Warren Easton and Ben Franklin was also postponed, but no makeup date was set.
Holy Cross, Shaw and Brother Martin are all scheduled to play their games set for Saturday. Shaw hosts John Curtis at 2 p.m. Holy Cross travels to play Belle Chasse at 1 p.m. and Brother Martin hosts Karr at 11 a.m.
