University Lab completed its undefeated run through District 6-3A with a 56-22 victory against Donaldsonville on Thursday at Jeff Boss Field.
Quarterback DJ White led the Cubs through the air with 246 yards passing and four touchdowns. Running back Mike Hollins was his top target with three grabs for 155 yards.
Hollins also had 52 rushing yards on seven attempts with three rushing touchdowns. He had another touchdown reception. Jordan Davis was the Cubs’ leading rusher with 83 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries.
Wide receiver Stephen Sullivan was Donaldsonville’s biggest weapon. He had four catches for 163 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown reception.
Quarterback Tyler Brown completed 9-of-20 passes for 231 yards but threw two interceptions.
Koby Bozeman led the Tigers on the ground with 79 rushing yards. Davon Johnson ran for 47 and a pair of scores.
University came out firing from the first offensive play of the game. White threw to Hollins for 45 yards to set the Cubs up in the red zone. White connected with Chris Raymond for a 13-yard touchdown on the next snap.
Donaldsonville had a chance to tie it later in the quarter but a fumble on fourth down in the red zone ended the threat.
University took advantage with an 86-yard touchdown on a screen pass from White to Hollins to make it 14-0.
The Cubs would score on their next two possessions. The first was a 25-yard pass from White to Malik Antoine, the next another touchdown pass from White to Hollins, this one from 24 yards.
Donaldsonville finally found the end zone after going down 28-0.
Bozeman carried 34 yards on the first play of the touchdown drive. Two plays later, Brown connected with Sullivan for 43, falling only a few yards shy of the end zone.
Johnson took it in on the next snap to cut the deficit to 28-7.
University answered on the next series though. White completed three passes for 50 yards before Hollins carried it in from 7 yards for his third touchdown of the half.
Donaldsonville did hit a big play the next possession to return to the end zone. Brown found a wide-open Sullivan, and he ran the distance for a 76-yard score.
The rest of the half was all University though. The Cubs went to Davis on the next possession. He racked up all 67 yards on the touchdown drive, capped off by a 3-yard plunge.
The Cubs scored once more before the break after an interception returned inside the Donaldsonville 10 with less than two minutes left. Hollins made it four scores by halftime with a 7-yard score, as University led 49-14 after two quarters.
University came out just as hot after halftime. After forcing a punt, Davis took the Cubs’ first offensive play 29 yards for his second touchdown of the game.
Donaldsonville did get back to the end zone before it was over. The Tigers took over in University territory after forcing a punt early in the fourth quarter. Johnson ran it in from 13 yards out, and the two-point conversion made it the final 56-22.
