Carter, a senior running back, rushed 16 times for 181 yards and scored five touchdowns in the Buccaneers’ 42-17 victory over Helen Cox. West Jefferson improved to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in District 8-5A and will play Chalmette on Friday.
Young scored both touchdowns — one on a 14-yard run and another on a 68-yard interception return — in Crescent City’s 12-6 victory over Cohen. It was the first victory of the season for the Pioneers (1-4). Young finished the day with three interceptions.
“That kid is special,” Crescent City coach Sean Dumas said. “Hopefully he continues to work hard the rest of the season and you haven’t heard the last of him.”
Cabeceiras, a sophomore outside hitter, was spectacular in the Archbishop Hannan Fall Classic Volleyball tournament held Oct. 2-3 near Covington. Cabeceiras had 14 kills and six digs in the tournament final — a three-set win over Ursuline. Hannan was 6-0 in the tournament.
