Imagine a world without select, non-select; check out our mock combined 5A prep football playoff bracket _lowres

Advocate file photo by BRIAN ROBERTS -- Zachary wide receiver Shyron White carries the ball against Walker High School in November. White has been named to District 4-5A's second-team defense.

So who is the best team in Class 5A?

Is it Rummel? Or Evangel? Perhaps West Monroe? Maybe Zachary? What about Destrehan?

We’ll never really know under the current LHSAA playoff format that has the select and non-select schools playing for separate state championships.

But we can only imagine.

So here is a look, based on the power rankings, at what the Class 5A playoff bracket would look like if all the large 5A schools were lumped into a 32-team brackets.

Of course, this means that some of the teams that made the playoffs would have been left out.

Three select schools (Jesuit, Shaw, and St. Augustine) would have missed the cut.

So would the following non-select schools (Alexandria, Natchitoches Central, Sam Houston, Fontainebleau, Denham Springs, Sulphur, and Central).

So here is a look at the bracket. (Click here if you'd like to see the actual pairings and brackets).
