SULPHUR - Competitors for The Dunham School and Baton Rouge High posted top four qualifying times in different divisions as the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Swimming Championship began Wednesday at the SPAR Aquatic Center.

Dunham had the second best mark in all three girls relays during the morning preliminary heats for Division IV-Classes 2A and below. Dunham’s Olivia Huffman and Christian Life’s Claire Morris also swam No. 2 qualifying marks.

BRHS’ Sydney Gordon and Martin Braun compiled notable times in the Division II-Class 4A preliminary heats held in the afternoon.

Finals in both divisions are Thursday. The Division IV finals begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Division II finals at 3 p.m.

Huffman placed second in the girls 100-yard freestyle (57.48 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:06.76).

Morris was second in the girls 100 breaststroke (1:14.48). Dunham’s No. 2 times were 2:12.82 in the 200 medley relay, 1:53.44 in the 200 freestyle relay and 4:12.45 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Gordon was third in the girls Division II 50 freestyle prelims in 26.46 seconds and was fourth in the 100 freestyle in 59.72. Braun was fourth in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.78).
