MONROE — Three individual champions helped the Assumption High School boys team claim top honors in Division II Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA State Powerlifting meet that concluded Saturday.
Grant Mabile, Lawrence Armstead and Beau Samanie were first-place finishers for the Mustangs, who scored 51 points at the University of Louisiana at Monroe’s Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Tioga was second with 41 points and Abbeville placed third with 28 points. Tioga won the Division II girls title. The West Monroe boys and Alexandria Senior High girls were the Division I champions.
Mabile had a total lift of 915 pounds in the 123-pound weight class. Samanie recorded a 1,235 total lift to place at 165, while Armstead won the over 275 competition with a 1,580 total.
Two Baton Rouge girls were second-place finishers. Zachary’s Kristian Jackson was the runner-up in the 181-pound weight class with total of 935 pounds in Division I.
Woodlawn’s Danita Jones was the Division II runner-up at 165, recording a total lift of 690. Candace Joseph of Assumption placed ahead of Jones with a 715 total.
Central’s Alyssa Dixon took third in the 220 class in Division I with a lift of 465.
