NATCHEZ — Zach Kelly and Michael Beauchamp combined for 261 rushing yards and two touchdowns, leading Silliman Institute to a 20-15 road victory over Trinity Episcopal Friday night.
Beauchamp ran for a game-high 140 yards on 16 carries and scored one touchdown for the Wildcats in the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools regular-season opener.
Kelly added 121 yards on 14 carries and also scored one TD. Kelly completed 5 of 9 passes for 62 yards.
The Silliman offense rolled up 346 yards, including 284 rushing. The Wildcats limited Trinity to 209 yards. Devin Gros had an interception, and Colton Strain picked up a fumble recover for the Silliman defense.
Saints/LHSAA games set
Four local teams are set to be part of the New Orleans Saints/LHSAA 2015 Game of the Week on Fox Sports New Orleans. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. for all games.
For Baton Rouge, the action starts Week 1 when defending Division II select champion University High of Class 3A hosts Class 5A Rummel on Friday, Sept. 4. Rummel was the Division I select champion in 2013 and the 5A champion in 2012.
Parkview Baptist, the Division II runner-up, is showcased Week 2. The Eagles travel to play Class 2A Riverside Academy on Thursday, Sept. 10.
An all-local game set for Friday, Oct. 16, features new District 6-4A rivals. Plaquemine, the defending league champion and 4A semifinalist, travels to play Livonia, a team that moves up to 4A after winning the Class 3A state title last fall.
Football and volleyball teams are asked to submit an updated roster this week to The Advocate sports staff this week.
